Plea Deal: Former Basketball Coach Faces 10-Year Sentence For DUI Crash

Posted:
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

The former Fresno High School basketball coach accused of driving drunk and killing a 7-year-old boy has agreed to a plea deal.

Loren LeBeau on Wednesday morning pleaded no contest to four charges.

The charges include vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence, DUI causing injury or death and hit and run.

In exchange, he's expected to spend a decade in prison.

LeBeau is accused of running over Donovan Maldonado and members of his family as they were crossing Shepherd Avenue near Milbrook along the Sugar Pine trail last July.

LeBeau left the scene but returned minutes later and was arrested.

LeBeau has been out of jail for the last few months. He will be sentenced on Aug. 29.

Earlier this week, construction crews began work on a tunnel under Shepherd Avenue to make that crossing safer.
