Make-A-Wish Central California Launches Wishes In Flight Campaign

Posted:

More than 100 Central Valley children could see their wishes come true under a summer-long campaign designed to collect unused air miles.

Wishes in Flight, a campaign launched this month by the Central Valley chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, focuses on collecting crucial travel miles to help grant wishes that require travel for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Upward of 70 percent of all wishes require air travel, says Diana Rambo, executive director of Make-A-Wish Central California.

In recent years, the cost of airline tickets have steadily increased. Rambo says that getting air miles that would typically go unused or would otherwise expire is critical in helping make some of the 110 wishes that will be made in the Central California chapter this year come true.

"More than 160 airline tickets, the equivalent of 8 million airlines miles, are needed each year to get local wish kids and their families to and from these incredible experiences," Rambo said.

James Banda, a Fresno boy who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of 4, got to experience that firsthand when he and his parents were flown to Kennedy Space Center and Walt Disney World in Florida earlier this year.

Miles can be donated online by visiting www.centralca.wish.org and click on the Wishes in Flight link or by calling (559) 221-9474.
