Accident On El Capitan: British Man Dies In Yosemite Climbing Accident

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KMPH) -

A 28-year-old man from London died Sunday afternoon in a rock climbing accident on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, authorities said. 

Felix Joseph Kiernan was climbing on the East Buttress of El Capitan around 2 p.m. when he was struck by a rock, Yosemite National Park officials said.

Kiernan and his climbing partner were about 600 feet up the climbing route when a loose block -- measuring about one foot by two feet -- fell about 150 feet before striking him.

Park rangers were alerted by a person who had been climbing below Kiernan.

Kiernan was found by search and rescue crews around 4 p.m. where he was pronounced dead. A
