Ex-Teacher Gets Jail Time For Sex With Student

Posted:
TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

A former high school teacher who had sex with a 17-year-old student was sentenced to a one-year stint in jail, the Tulare County District Attorney's Office announced on Monday.

Eric James Ford, 49, of Visalia, pleaded guilty to three separate counts of unlawful sex with a minor in March.

Investigators said a then 17-year-old female student reported having sex with Ford on three separate occasions in late 2012. The teenager was in two classes taught by Ford, the DA's office said.

Ford had taken the victim to various Visalia hotels on each of the occasions, according to the DA's office.

Ford was also placed on five years probation, ordered to undergo counseling and submit to a blood test for HIV antibodies.

A Tulare County judge ordered future restitution to the victim and the Government Victim's Compensation Claims Board to remain open.
