Fresno State Player Reflects On His Great Day, 15 Years Later

15 years ago, a Valley youngster went to a Giants-Mets baseball game dressed like his favorite player, Mike Piazza.

Today that youngster, Jake Alvarez, is an infielder for Fresno State.

And he will never forget the day his image was flashed to a national television audience time after time by the Fox Network cameras. The announcers referred to the kid they called "Mini-Mike" several times during the broadcast.

Then seven years old, Alvarez was dressed in full catcher's gear, with a moustache and sideburns painted on. He showed a toothless grin from ear to ear when Piazza hit a home run.

Watching the video provided by KMPH on Wednesday, Alvarez called that day one of the greatest times of his life.

After that game, Alvarez got to meet Piazza, who gave him an autograph and a New York Mets cap.

This Friday night,  Alvarez and his Bulldogs open a three game series against Nevada  at Beiden Field.
