YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KMPH) -

The body of a hiker who was reported missing on Sunday has been found, Yosemite National Park officials said.

Yosemite National Park Search and Rescue Ranger personnel say they found 73-year-old Kenneth Stensby around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Stensby, of Edina, Minn., was fatally injured after falling from a cliff near the top of the Vernal Fall, national park officials said.

National park officials said Stensby had been staying at the Ahwahnee Hotel for several days and went on day-long hikes each day.

Stensby would leave a note with the hotel's concierge outlining his daily plan each morning, officials said.

On Sunday, Stensby planned to hike to the top of Vernal Fall from the Mist Trail and return to the hotel around noon.

Hotel staff attempted to contact Stensby around 5 p.m. that evening and discovered he had not returned, officials said.

A full-scale search and rescue operation began on Monday. A California Highway Patrol helicopter spotted Stensby's body around 6 p.m. on Monday.

The Mist Trail, closed during the search and rescue operation, has now been reopened.
