Officer Involved Shooting: Two Men Wounded

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A wanted gang member who was shot by a police officer on Sunday after crashing a car near Fresno State has been released from the hospital and booked into the county jail, the Fresno Police Department said.

Keith Breazell, 23, and his passenger, 22-year-old Trayvon Smith, fled from police down the wrong way of Cedar Avenue before crashing into another car.

When officers approached the car, one officer fired a round, striking Breazell in the hand. The bullet then inadvertently struck Smith.

Both men were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Smith remains hospitalized.

Breazell and Aaron Jones, 22, were wanted by police in connection to an April 18 shooting where a 21-year-old man was shot in the head. The shooting victim has significant brain injuries and is still hospitalized, police said.

Police did not recover any evidence related to the April 18 shooting after serving two search warrants at two homes Monday morning. Police are still looking for three guns used in the April 18.

Breazell was booked into the Fresno County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, gang enhancements, conspiracy and a probation violation.

Aaron Jones remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous. He is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, gang enhancements and conspiracy, police said.
