FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A blaze that started early Tuesday morning fire destroyed a popular central Fresno breakfast spot.

The Train Depot and three neighboring businesses went up in flames Tuesday morning as the owner of one of those businesses watched his dreams turn to ashes.

"I want them to stop the fire right now," the anguished owner of Thai Phooket-3 restaurant said. "God.

"Please, stop the fire. My goodness," the restaurant owner said as he watched firefighters battle the flames.

Firefighters fought furiously, from the air with hoses atop high ladder trucks, and the ground, to stop the blaze that started just before 2 a.m. at a strip mall near First Street and McKinley Avenue.

The intensity of the fire soon had firefighters on the defensive, trying to save the two remaining businesses, The Train Depot and the man's Thai restaurant.

"I don't want anything to happen to my restaurant," the owner of the Thai restaurant said.

But, it was a losing battle. Firefighters could not beat back the flames, leaving the man and those dependent on those businesses literally brokenhearted.

"That killed my heart right there. Killed my heart," the stunned owner said as he watched the roof of his restaurant collapse into a pile of burning rubble.

There were no injuries but fire investigators say the building and all four businesses housed there are a total loss with damage estimated at more than $1.5 million.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
