FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Detectives on Friday identified the man suspected in a three-month string of armed robberies across Fresno.
Willie Murphy, 32, is said to be behind six robberies beginning on Jan. 17 and with the last known robbery on March 12.
Murphy, a known gang member and a registered sex offender, targeted lone female clerks in each of the robberies. Surveillance footage from two of the robberies captured Murphy posing as a customer just moments before approaching the front counter and flashing a handgun hidden in the waistband of his pants.
Police say Murphy is considered armed and dangerous. He is a post-release state inmate under county probation.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Fresno Police Department at 621-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP where an anonymous tip could lead to a $1,000 reward.
