Fresno Shootings Down; 5-Day Police Operation Nets 153 Arrests

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Fresno anti-gang unit made 153 arrests and recovered 19 illegal guns in a five-day period that ended this weekend.

MAGEC officers were able to reduce the number of shooting from the previous week by 50 percent, according to Jaime Rios, Fresno Police Department's public information officer. Eight people, including an 8-year-old girl who was seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting, were shot last week in Fresno.

Of the 153 arrests, 93 were gang related. Officers also served 14 search warrants during the five-day stretch.

This is the third in a series of gang sweeps planned by MAGEC officers for 2013.

Violent crime has dropped 4.7 percent compared to this point last year, according to reports from the Fresno Police Department.
