LEMOORE, Calif. (KMPH) -

A man driving a stolen car was arrested early Saturday morning after he fled onto the Lemoore Naval Base and then trespassed into field, authorities said.

Kings County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 35-year-old Geronimo Garza of Tulare.

Police say Garza drove a stolen 2012 Toyota Camry to the Lemoore Naval Airstation entry near Highway 198 and 25th Avenue, just outside of the city of Lemoore.

A gate sentry asked Garza for credentials to enter the base. Garza then ignored the gate sentry and sped off into the housing area of the base, police said.

The was later found abandoned and was confirmed stolen from a Tulare-area rental car company, police said.

Deputies found Garza around 8 a.m. after a farmer called to report a man who had trespassed onto his field, just south of the Naval base.

Garza was booked in the Kings County Jail.

Officers found him in possession of methamphetamine.

He was charged with attempting to bring a controlled substance into a jail, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, possession of meth and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
