FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -
An inmate is on the loose Monday afternoon after he slipped out of a back door while receiving medical treatment, authorities said.
Police are searching for 32-year-old Volarat Thanousone, a federal inmate who escaped from the guard of correction officers this morning while undergoing a blood infusion at a Central Fresno health center.
Authorities say Thanousone, who was still handcuffed and shackled, escaped through a back door while on a bathroom break. Officers did not notice that he was missing until some time had passed. He then jumped into a waiting red Honda with a woman driver, according to reports.
Thanousone was in federal custody for transporting more than 1000 grams of marijuana.
Police describe him as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was still wearing his red jail jumpsuit.
