FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Fresno police may have gotten a break investigating a rash of bike thefts at the Mosqueda Center BMX Park.

A man stole a bike from a 14-year-old kid on Monday afternoon as a group of other kids tried to stop him.

Witnesses say the person goes by the nickname of "Breh" or "2-H".

"There have been a couple of thefts, like four or five," said Homer Rodriguez.

Witnesses say the man came over and pretended to examine the bike. He then picked it up, threw it over the fence and got away.

"We tried to stop him, but he's 6 feet tall so we couldn't get it," Rodriguez said.

Detectives say they now want to find the man and interview him. Police say there is a big black market for these BMX bikes.

Police say they criminals  range from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.

Taleha Morris, a mother who lets her children go to the skate park, said that within 10 minutes of being at the park, she heard of bikes being stolen.

"It is just somewhat sad because these bikes are a lot of money. His cost $400, and his cost $500 and these kids work very hard to raise this money," she said.

Police say anyone with information is urged to call Crime-Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867), remember you can remain anonymous.

You can get up to a thousand dollars in cash for your information.
