FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A high-speed pursuit ends with an elderly man and a CHP officer rushed to the hospital, and a man in his twenties headed to jail.

It began around 10 p.m. on Friday near Blackstone and McKinley avenues in Fresno.

A CHP officer with the gang enforcement unit tried to pull over a white SUV, but officers say the driver refused to stop and even rammed the officer with his car.

A chase began that lasted for several minutes through out the streets of Fresno and end near Bullard and Chestnut. Officers say it reached speeds around 60 to 75 miles per hour.

Officers say the suspect ran a red light and hit an elderly man driving a small gray car.

The gray car crashed into a pole.

The suspect continued to drive south on Chestnut and crashed into a fence near Fresno State. Officers say the man ran into the empty field and was tackled by officers with the help of the CHP helicopter.

Officers say the elderly man was rushed to the hospital and was badly hurt. The officer was also taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay.

The suspect is facing several felony charges. He remains in the Fresno County Jail.
