Authorities say a five year-old boy is safe and his kidnapper dead after a nearly week-long hostage situation ends in Alabama.
The boy's kidnapper boarded a school bus last week and shot the driver several times as the driver tried to protect the children on board. The driver died.
Reports from the scene in Midland City, Alabama say police conducted some sort of rescue mission Monday afternoon, freed the boy, and killed his kidnapper.
Federal authorities have scheduled a news conference for around 5:30 Eastern time. More information about the rescue will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
