Top Fresno State Assistant To NFL

Tim McDonald is leaving Fresno State after one season with the Bulldogs, taking a job as defensive backs coach for the New York Jets.

Head coach Tim DeRuyter was hoping to keep his staff of assistants in tact at least through next season.  But DeRuyter must now find a replacement for the man credited with developing the Bulldogs' secondary into a ball-hawking group that came up with 22 interceptions.

DeRuyter already has a couple of top prospects in mind from a list of candidates. He says he will announce McDonald's replacement sometime after signing day on February 6th.

A Fresno native, McDonald starred at Edison High School, USC, the Arizona Cardinals and the 49ers.

This is his first job as an assistant coach in the NFL.
