It Takes Teamwork To Make King's Dream Work

CLOVIS, Calif. (KMPH) -

Since 1983 Fresno County has celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.  This year's breakfast theme focused on how teamwork makes the dream work.

The 29th annual breakfast honoring Dr. King featured speeches and music performed by the Clovis High School Choir.

Clovis Councilman Nathan Magsig issued the first challenge.  "What is your life's blueprint?  If Dr. Martin Luther King was here today he would ask you that question because we're all here for a reason and God has constructed all of us.

Dr. King was an icon for peace and courage.  Clovis Mayor Pro–Tem Lynne Ashbeck focused her message on a letter he wrote while sitting in a Birmingham jail.  "To me the words that came from that quiet time in a cell alone speak most powerfully to the truth that it takes teamwork to make the dream work."

Dr. King was also a champion of equality for all.  His legacy made a difference for Chief Janet Davis.  "Being a female police chief I certainly benefited from the work of Dr. King and all of the leaders at that time and the men and women and community members that sacrificed many of them their physical well being for us to have what we have today."

Monday morning the annual Martin Luther King Junior march, steps off at nine at St. John's Cathedral in Downtown Fresno.
