The Madera County Sheriff's Department says a man who tried to run over a deputy sheriff Friday afternoon near Coarsegold has been found dead.
Madera County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Erica Stuart says the man, George Rosenberg, was discovered deceased next to a Coarsegold-area barn with a rifle in his lap.
Earlier in the day, around 3:15 p.m., Stuart says Rosenberg tried to run over a deputy, prompting the deputy to open fire on him. She says Rosenberg then drove away. That caused deputies to conduct an all-out search for Rosenberg.
Around 5:55 p.m., deputies found Rosenberg next to the barn, while his pickup was inside the barn. Stuart told KMPH News Rosenberg was hiding and lying in wait knowing full well the cops would find him.
Stuart said Rosenberg had a warrant out for his arrest.
