Helicopter Missing In Central California

UPDATE: Sheriff's officials have located the wreckage of a helicopter that went missing in Central California, and they say the female pilot is dead. The wreckage was found in a vineyard about 4 hours after the helicopter was reported missing.

 

A helicopter has gone missing on its expected return to Delano Airport in Kern County.

A spokesperson from the Federal Aviation Administration says the helicopter was returning to the airport when it disappeared around 6:15am, Wednesday.

It was one of three helicopters that were supposed to be conducting frost control on a local field. The two other helicopters returned as expected.

The spokesperson says one of the returning pilots was unable to contact the missing pilot by radio.

Sheriff's officials are searching the area.
