Shooting In Merced, Police Searching For Suspects

MERCED, Calif. (KMPH) -

Police say they are searching for the shooters of two young men in Merced.

Officers received several calls of shots fired from residents near Meadows avenue in Merced. After arriving on the scene, two victims of the shooting were located, 19 and 20-year-old Hispanic males from Merced.

Police say the two victims stated they were walking down the sidewalk when a couple of black male adults came up behind them and started to shoot at them. They said they did not know why someone would want to shoot at them. No clear motive has been established.

The only description of the shooters is that they are wearing dark clothing.

One of the victims was transported to a Modest area hospital, but was released once his injuries were determined not life threatening. The other victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center and his status is unknown.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at (209) 385-4725.
