The Sky Is Falling For Real! Geminid Meteor Shower Due This Week

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Get ready for a real show.. in space! The annual Geminid Meteor Shower is set to peak on Dec. 13 and 14, 2012. The display, which is caused by an unusual 'rock comet,' could produce more than 100 meteors per hour during the dark hours before dawn this Thursday and Friday.

But this year the Geminid shower could be enhanced by another meteor shower that could possibly happen at the same time.

NASA says debris from Comet 46P Wirtanen may produce as many as 30 meteors per hour, added to the 100 meteors per hour from the Geminids, that could be an incredible sight.
