Fresno State football star Phillip Thomas is the second Bulldog ever to be named consensus All-America after being voted to the first team by the Associated Press.
Quarterback Jackie Fellows is the other Fresno State player to earn the honor, in 1942.
Thomas has been named to the first team by the Associated Press, the Sporting News, the Walter Camp Foundation, and the American Football Coaches Association.
If he is named to the first team by the Football Writers Association of America on Friday, Thomas will be the first Fresno State player ever to be a unanimous All-American.
The senior safety out of Bakersfield leads the nation with eight interceptions, returning three of them for touchdowns.
Thomas and the Mountain West Conference champion Bulldogs will play SMU in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve.
