TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

An 8-year-old girl is among the five people killed, after deputies say, her father went on a shooting spree that ended the lives of three other family members.

The only two survivors- a 6-year-old boy and his 5-year-old sister - who were both shot and are at the hospital.

The bloodshed began at a home on the Tule River Indian Reservation in Porterville, that's about 90 miles southeast of Fresno.

It all ended with more gunfire inside a car, parked on the side of a country road, north of Lindsay.

That's where deputies opened fire on 31-year-old Hector Celaya, whose life was taken by a bullet.

"He's known to law enforcement, and also to be a possible drug user as well," said Chris Douglass with the Tulare County Sheriff's Department.

Family members say Celaya was unemployed and struggling to support his family.

But investigators still don't know what sparked the killings.

Deputies found his mother, 60-year-old Irene Celaya, and uncle, 61-year-old Francisco Moreno, dead inside a trailer on the reservation.

They also found a survivor, Celaya's 6-year-old son Andrew, who was also shot.

A second bloody scene was discovered in a shed on the property - where 53-year-old Bernard Franco, who's related to Celaya, was shot and killed.

After the shootings, Celaya then drove off with his two young daughters.

Nearly 6 hours later, deputies caught up with him on a country road in Tulare County, north of Lindsay.

Celaya led deputies on a chase, then pulled over.

That's where deputies say, gunshots went off inside the car.

Four deputies then opened fire on Celaya.

"We attempted to get him out of the vehicle...shots were fired inside the vehicle...not necessarily at our deputies so deputies did shoot their firearms at the suspect and the suspect was struck," said Douglass.

Deputies say Celaya shot both his daughters - 8-year-old Alyssa didn't make it, but 5-year-old Linea did.

Deputies would not say whether Celaya shot himself or if it was a bullet fired by deputies that killed him.

The survivors are both at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

6-year-old Andrew Celaya is in bad shape, he's listed in critical condition; family members say he was shot in the head.

And 5-year-old Linea is listed in serious condition.
