Local students will demonstrate NobleHour's community building tools on Friday night at the Community Southern Bank.
Lakeland, Fla. (PRWEB) December 05, 2012
Lakeland NobleHour Student Ambassadors are kicking off an effort to connect the Greater Lakeland Area using NobleHour, a web-based software for managing volunteerism and community engagement. The social platform will be introduced to area non-profits, schools, and community business leaders at 6:30pm on Friday, Dec. 7. This informational event will take place at the Community Southern Bank at 3340 S. Florida Ave. Lakeland, Fla. 33803.
“We’re excited to share NobleHour with Lakeland organizations because it will help connect our community and strengthen our commitment to volunteerism and social good,” said Ann Kast, a Community Organizer for the NobleHour Ambassador Team and sophomore at the Lois Cowles Harrison Center of the Visual and Performing Arts.
The website enables Lakeland residents to share and find local events, news, organizations, jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities. The social software also keeps track of community involvement, measuring the impact of service initiatives.
“Our platform has gone through incredible enhancements since 2005, when we founded our predecessor site, SweatMonkey.org,” said NobleHour Managing Partner, Wesley Barnett.
Sophomore high school student, Callahan Fore, founded SweatMonkey in 2005. While studying at All Saints' Academy in Winter Haven, Fla., Fore imagined a way to help himself and his peers connect to volunteer opportunities and realize their potential as changemakers. With the support of fellow students and his father, Scott Fore, Callahan created a platform that has evolved into a premier tool for building community and managing civic engagement.
“NobleHour helps individuals and organizations change the world, by changing the way they connect online. We hope to have every non-profit, business, and school in the Greater Lakeland Area using the site and making a Noble Impact,” said Barnett.
