HealthyAnswers.com warns readers of the 5 top warning signs of a heart attack in women.

Delray Beach, FL (PRWEB) December 05, 2012

Comedienne Rosie O’Donnell’s recent surprise heart attack focused a bright spotlight on the fact that the symptoms of a woman’s heart attack can be much different from a man’s. To that end HealthyAnswers.com published an article featuring the 5 top warning signs of a woman’s heart attack. Unlike a man’s heart attack that is usually heralded by intense, chest-clutching pain, the symptoms of a woman’s heart attack although more subtle, can be just as deadly.

According to HealthyAnswers.com, women can experience symptoms for several weeks prior to a heart attack. In many cases, a full-blown attack could be prevented if symptoms are heeded and treatment sought. Some of the first signs of an impending heart attack include extreme fatigue for several days, or longer, and/or nausea with/without vomiting. Others symptoms include atypical pain in the right, rather than left arm; upper back pain, tingling along the jaw line, and shortness of breath. In about 16% of women, there may be no real pain at all.

HealthyAnswers.com resident medical expert, Mark Rosenberg, M.D., states, “About 500,000 fatal heart attacks occur a year – with half of those involving women. Many women are found dead at home because of a failure to recognize their own symptoms. They tend to rationalize symptoms as maybe a pulled muscle from heavy housework, or even that they may be coming down with the flu. They’re afraid of being embarrassed making a wrong call to 911.”
