Twinkie Craze Hits Valley With Hostess Closing

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

News of Hostess Brand Inc. closing its doors spread rapidly across the Internet and other media outlets, and it created long lines at stores in the valley.

As quickly as Hostess workers delivered the iconic snack with the "golden sponge cake and creamy filling" customers grabbed them by the armful.

Customer Vashie Miller says, "It's a very sad day. When I was a little kid, whenever I was having a rough time, my mom would always take me to the store. So I grew up with Hostess, so I thought I'd come and try to get my kids some Twinkies."

It was a similar scene at a Clovis Target.

Workers put out the last of its Hostess products as fans said losing the snacks was like losing a piece of their childhood.

Pete Aldaz says, "The kids sent me down and said hurry up because we are never going to eat them again."

While some are sad, others are cashing in on the potential lack of sugar high.

Many are selling boxes of the popular treats on eBay and Craigslist, asking from 10 to 60 dollars a box.

One person is selling his 21-year-old Twinkie. The starting asking price is one dollar.
