Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting In Pixley

Posted: Updated:
PIXLEY, Calif. (KMPH) -

KMPH News has learned more details about a man shot and killed by police in the South Valley Tuesday afternoon.

The deadly officer-involved shooting happened just before 4 p.m. in Pixley off Highway 99.

Authorities say the man -- identified by family members as Ciecil Elkins Jr. -- was suspected of trying to kill two Tulare police officers early Monday morning.

Investigators say Elkins Jr. had tried to run over the officers in a stolen vehicle and got away.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Office says Gang Task Force officers got information saying that same man was in Pixley Tuesday afternoon. But when officers tried to arrest him, he ran away.

CHP officers tried to catch him, and that's when he was shot and killed.

Investigators have not said whether Elkins Jr. was armed.

His father says his son wasn't armed and that the shooting was uncalled for.
