Officer-Involved Shooting In Selma

Posted:
SELMA, Calif. (KMPH) -

A man is recovering after being shot by a police officer in southwest Selma Thursday evening.

Selma Police Chief Myron Dyck says the man had jumped out of a pickup that the officer was chasing and ran into an alley near Valley View Street & Skelton Street, where he pulled out a gun and started shooting it. That's when the police officer felt forced to return fire on the man and shot him.

The incident started when police discovered a pickup that had been reported stolen with two men inside. Dyck says a police unit began following the vehicle, and that a chase ultimately ensued.

Dyck says the two men bailed out of the pickup along Valley View Street, and started to run away. He says one of them ran into the alley between Valley View & Yerba street, bordered by Van Horn and Skelton streets, where the shooting took place. Dyck says the other man ran off, but was found and detained.

The man who was shot was transported by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
