VISALIA, Calif. (AP) - A former Tulare County correctional deputy who was convicted Wednesday of child molestation is facing additional charges after authorities said he attacked a detective in a Visalia courtroom.
As guilty verdicts were being read to Michael Risenhoover, officials say he reached out and grabbed the lead investigator in the case, a sheriff's detective who was sitting nearby.
Authorities say Risenhoover tried to get the detective's gun, but bailiffs were able to subdue him using a Taser stun gun.
Risenhoover was taken out of the courtroom, then later brought back for the rest of the verdicts to be read.
Prosecutors say the 34-year-old Risenhoover was convicted of ten counts, including six counts of child molestation and two counts of sexual intercourse with a child age 10 or under.
On those convictions, he's facing up to 84 years to life when he's sentenced on Nov. 27.
