FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Fresno County sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers arrested a Sanger man who they say led them on a 40-minute chase Wednesday afternoon.
The man, identified as 36-year-old David Estrada, was wanted on a warrant for being a felon in possession of a weapon, sheriff's spokesman Chris Curtice said.
Shortly after 1 p.m., deputies learned that Estrada was at a home along Olive near Temperance. As they investigated, he got into a Pontiac and drove off, Curtice said.
Deputies attempted to pull him over, but he wouldn't stop and led them on a chase through several Fresno neighborhoods, Curtice said.
The CHP was then called in and asked to take over the pursuit.
At some point during the chase, Estrada rammed a deputy's vehicle and drove away, Curtice said. The deputy was not hurt.
He then drove to the town of Del Rey, where officers used a pit maneuver to spin the car out of control and into a field.
Authorities tried to take Estrada into custody, but he became combative, so they deployed a police dog which ended up biting him, Curtice said.
Estrada was taken to Community Regional Medical Center to get checked out, and will be booked into the Fresno County Jail on multiple charges.
While checking the car, deputies say they found property that was stolen during a recent burglary.
