Captured: Violent Inmate Mistakenly Released From Jail Caught In Mexico

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A violent inmate who was mistakenly released from the Fresno County Jail earlier this year is back behind bars.

25-year-old Paul Prieto was arrested in 2010 on charges of armed robbery, gang enhancements and a parole violation.

Jail staff accidentally released him in March, after confusing him with another inmate with the same last name.

Saturday night, KMPH News was the only crew there when Prieto was booked back into jail.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force tracked Prieto down; they found him near Guadalajara, in Mexico.

He was driven back to Fresno Saturday evening.

Prieto was convicted of several felonies, and is facing more than 100 years in prison.
