Drug Lab Uncovered In Clovis Apartment

CLOVIS, Calif. (KMPH) -

Police say two people have been arrested after an ecstasy lab operation was uncovered inside a Clovis apartment.

Late Thursday night, Clovis Police were called to the Pacific Grove Apartments off Villa and Barstow to check on possible drug activity, police spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee said.

Officers say they located two men in a parking lot who showed symptoms of being under the influence of drugs. They also found one of them was in possession of property that was stolen from a nearby unit, Stoll-Lee said.

Police went to the apartment to locate the owner of the property, and a man let them inside. That's when officers found evidence of a drug lab that was hot and giving off strong fumes, Stoll-Lee said.

Authorities evacuated the two people inside, along with two families in neighboring units.

The Fresno Meth Task Force was called in, and investigators confirmed that it was an ecstasy "cooking" drug lab, Stoll-Lee said.

Cody Long, 19, was arrested for manufacturing a controlled substance, while Anthony Smith, 20, was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance, Stoll-Lee said.

Both men lived in the apartment with the two people who were evacuated.

The case was turned over to the Central California High Density Drug Trafficking Area Task Force.

The Fresno County Health Department and a local company which handles hazardous materials were called to help clean up the apartment.
