FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
The Giants success in the post season has created prosperous times for bars and sports shops. We are seeing a lot more orange and black in October and it's not because Halloween is a week away. Giants fans are proudly wearing their colors and they're easy to spot in packed bars.
At Doghouse Grill across from Fresno State, the place was packed during game one of the World Series. Giants fan Sarah Coghlan brought a lot of her friends. "So exciting. It means so much. We have a lot of Giants fans here in the Valley. A lot of people come together and it's really fun to celebrate with everyone and celebrate this good time."
The manager of Doghouse Grill told me the crowd arrived early and they like to dine and drink until the last out is made. Alex Garcia says it beats watching the game at home. "Have fun. Mingle with the people. Have drinks. It's all about a good time."
It's been an outstanding October for All American Sports Fan shop in Sierra Vista Mall in Clovis. Jordan Ellis says the store is selling all kinds of Giants sports apparel, coffee cups, baseballs and even a barbeque set. "Anything Giants has been hot. Specifically shirts and hats. The championship shirts and the championship looker room hats have been flying off the shelves."
Ellis says two years ago Giants post season sales helped its sale team get a bonus. He's predicting the same this year.
At Chukchansi Park a couple hundred Giants fans found a seat in the stands or a spot to spread a blanket in the outfield. David Wright and his son Dawson played catch while watching the game on the big screen. "It feels really good to be out here on the field people like Brett Pill, Brandon Belt have played on. It feels pretty good to be on the same field as they have."
The concession stands were operating so fans could nibble on fries and other treats you find at the ball park. Parker was there to high five fans. Sandra Chivers says its almost like being at AT&T Park. "It's a chance for us to get outside and feel like were actually at the World Series but not quite. It's as close as you can get. It's a lot of fun for families so it's worth coming out here."
The Grizzlies will continue to host World Series watch parties at Chukchansi Park. The gates open Thursday afternoon at 4:30.
