Water Main Breaks, Creating Giant Sink Hole In WeHo

Posted:
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KMPH) -

A water main break in West Hollywood leads to major flooding and creates a giant sinkhole in the middle of a street.

The break was reported early Wednesday morning at Westbourne drive and Santa Monica Boulevard.

The water spewed through the asphalt, making its way into an apartment complex's parking garage.

Four cars were submerged and some twenty apartments damaged.

Most of the water has since been drained, but water service has also been shut off, causing an inconvenience for residents who experienced a break just four years ago.

Officials believe the cause for the water main break was likely wear and tear.

The lines were put in place nearly 50 years ago.
