Child Run Over, Killed By SUV In Madera Co. Driveway

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

Authorities say they are investigating after an SUV ran over and killed a toddler in the driveway of her Madera County home.

The incident happened shortly before noon Wednesday on Martin Street near Road 26.

The California Highway Patrol says the mother of 19-month-old Merlyn Cruz Hernandez was driving the SUV off the lawn and accidentally backed up over the little girl.

Officers say the mother thought a brother was watching the child.

The little girl was pronounced dead a short time later.
