SELMA, Calif. (KMPH) -
The search for a teen who disappeared from Petaluma for nearly a week, ended in the Central Valley on Monday night.
Selma Police say they were notified by Petaluma Police Monday afternoon, after receiving a tip that 15-year-old Rubi Cruz-Mendoza may have been hiding out with her Godfather, 29-year-old Hilario Matus-Cardona.
According to the Fox Affiliate in the Bay area, KTVU, Rubi left with Matus-Cardona last Wednesday, October 17th. Petaluma Police believed the two may have been involved in a relationship.
Once Selma Police were given a location, they began surveillance, and found the two at a home on the 3400 block of Snyder Street.
Once officers spotted them, they contacted detectives from Petaluma—who were already in Madera.
Selma Police held the two, until detectives from Petaluma arrived and took them.
Matus-Carmona was taken into custody.
The San Jose Mercury News reports that Petaluma Police plan to release more details about the case on Tuesday.
