MERCED, Calif. (KMPH) -

Merced Police have shot a man they say tried to kill an officer.

Just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday police got a call of shots fired in the area of E St. and 11th.

An officer went to check it out but did not find anything, that's when investigators say 46-year-old Lou Seng Saeturn chased after the patrol car and threw something at it.

The officer then turned into a parking lot and began speaking with Saeturn who they say then threw a large knife at the officer.

The knife missed the officer's head and hit the patrol car instead.

That's when investigators say Saeturn tried throwing a second knife at the policeman. The officer then took out his gun and fired at Saeturn four times.

Police say three of those bullets hit the suspect in the upper body.

Saeturn then ran into the street but was quickly stopped by a second officer.

The suspect then complied, was arrested and taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Officers found two more knives on Saeturn.

None of the officers here hurt. Saeturn is listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Once he is released from the hospital, Saeturn will be booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of attempted murder of a police officer.

Merced police report this is not the first run in they've had with Saeturn.

Anyone with more information on this incident is asked to contact Merced Police Detective Chris Russell at (209) 385-4707.
