Big Fresno Fair: Fun Times Are Almost Here

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Rain or shine, or extreme heat, the Big Fresno Fair is just days away from opening its gates.

This weekend, people worked under the hot, hot sun to get the rides, exhibits and even the farm animals, ready in time.

Sunday, some of the finest raised roosters and turkeys in the Valley were moved into the fairgrounds, as FFA and 4H members dropped off their entries.

"I have my turkey, she's a hen, and I hope she does good at the fair," said Colton Vogt, a member of Kingsburg 4H.

For the past 5 months, Colton has raised and cared for his bird named Pumpkin.

The hot weather had the animals panting in their cages.

A much different feel than this time last year when rain clouds hovered in the sky on opening day of the fair.

This year, however, temperatures in the high 90's will hover above the fairgrounds, which may have some flocking to indoor exhibits - the mineral exhibit is nearly ready.

"There are things in here from the Fresno area, but also from the rest of the country, there are things from around the world," said Pete Guftafson, who was preparing his mineral display.

The Big Fresno Fair runs from Wednesday, October 3rd to Sunday, October 14th.

Admission costs $10 for adults, for kids, people in the military, and seniors - the cost is $7 to get in.

Kids under 5 are free.

Parking fees range from $5 to $12.
