FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Two Stanislaus County children at the center of an Amber Alert have been found safe, and the person accused of taking them -- their own father -- has been taken into custody.

A spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department said 6-year-old Tiffany Tumilty and her 9-year-old brother Philip Tumilty, Jr. were found in the Atwater area shortly after noon Friday -- approximately four hours after the alert was issued.

The spokesperson also said CHP officers took the kids' father, 47-year-old Philip Tumilty, into custody. Authorities believe he took the kids around 8 a.m.

According to KTXL-TV, Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies went to a home near Modesto Friday morning after receiving a call about a family disturbance. Deputies said Tumilty got into a fight with his ex-wife, and afterward he said he would take the two kids to school.

KTXL-TV reports that later in the morning, it was discovered the kids never made it to school. The report says Tumilty does not have custody of the kids.

The Amber Alert was canceled shortly before 1 p.m.
