FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Members of the Fresno Police SWAT Team set off several loud flash bangs during a standoff with a man they considered armed and dangerous.
They were trying to get 29-year-old Ulysses Montez to give himself up peacefully.
The standoff took place Wednesday evening at an apartment complex near McKinley and West in West Central Fresno.
Police say Montez was wanted for numerous felony changes, including robbery, kidnapping and domestic violence.
Meanwhile, across the street, Fremont Elementary students taking part in an after school program were quickly shuffled to the front of the school.
Parents, like Rebecca Carroll, quickly rushed to pick up her kid.
Rebecca Carroll says, "I asked the cop what was going on, they said they were trying to catch somebody. I was just concerned about her because it's all locked down."
Police say with the help of the helicopter, the pilot spotted the wanted man on the apartment's roof.
After some two and a half hours, he finally gave up.
As he was in the back of the car, Montez mouthed to our camera "I love you."
Police say 29-year-old Ulysses Montez is a known gang member and extra precautions were taken because they had information that he may have been armed and dangerous.
