West Nile Virus: First Human Case In Kings County

KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

Kings County has confirmed its first human case of West Nile virus this year.

Health officials say the person lives in the Hanford area and is recovering.

Last year, one human case was reported in the county.

The most recent figures show there have been 147 human cases of the West Nile virus in California this year. Six of those have been deadly.

The Kings County Mosquito Abatement District continues to detect West Nile virus in mosquitoes collected throughout the county. As of September 21st, 87 of those mosquito samples have tested positive for the virus, health officials said.
