HANFORD, Calif. (KMPH) -
The Hanford High School football team will be without their head coach for the rest of the season.
The CHP arrested 37-year-old Joshua Young Saturday night. Officers say he was driving drunk.
The officer who pulled Young over noticed he was weaving in and out of the lane, while he was driving on Highway 43. Young failed a field sobriety test.
Young took a blood test and investigators are still waiting on those results to determine what his blood alcohol level was.
The coach was relieved of his coaching duties for the rest of the year, but not removed from the classroom. He continues to teach P.E.
Hanford High principal, Scott Pickle, called Young a "quality individual, who made a poor decision."
Another coach we spoke with says the players were told what happened, and are upset about losing their coach.
"Yeah it does concern me, I'm sure it concerns every parent. Everyone wants a good role model. But even the best…" said Ida Gonzalez, a grandparent of a football player.
Even the best make mistakes - and it seems many in this community are willing to see it that way.
"I don't have an opinion. It's none of my business, it happened on his own time," said Kevin Culp, a parent.
"Who cares? Aw c'mon, he didn't hit anybody. People make mistakes," said Jeff Bertolgo, a parent.
Young has an overall winning record with Hanford High, including a west Yosemite League title in 2011.
His son is the starting quarterback on the team.
