Woman Arrested For Husband's Murder

Posted: Updated:
KINGSBURG, Calif. (KMPH) -

Neighbors of a Kingsburg couple can't believe 48-year-old Kathryn Ellis was arrested and will soon be charged with the murder of her husband, who was gunned down inside his home.

Fresno County Sheriff's detectives made the arrest Thursday afternoon at a relative's home in Clovis, where Kathryn Ellis spent the night.

Wednesday night detectives say Ellis told them her husband had been shot and killed by an intruder, when he went to check out a noise in the living room.

But now detectives say Ellis was the one who pulled the gun's trigger.

Kingsburg resident Catarino Hernandez could not believe the news.

Hernandez did admit the way Kingsburg police just secured the home and didn't search for anyone in the neighborhood made him think detectives knew something didn't add up with Kathryn's story that an intruder shot and killed her husband.

Catarino Hernandez says, "They stood around there and then finally the sheriff's deputies came. To me I would have brought a dog, the helicopter and get going with it."

Neighbors say they never saw the couple fight and the shooting was out of character for her.

But others say Kathryn was no stranger to guns. A Facebook picture from last year shows her with friends at the Coarsegold range.

Those who live in the quiet Kingsburg neighborhood say they are relieved it was not an intruder but say their heart now goes out to the 15-year-old son, who now lost his father and his mother is behind bars.

Neighbors say the 15-year-old was at a Future Farmers of America event when the shooting happened.

The 15-year-old has now been turned over to Child Protective Services.

Neighbors say he's currently staying with his grandmother.
