FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Local organizations will be giving thanks to our veterans this week.

The Central Valley Veterans Stand Down 2012 runs from Tuesday, September 18 through Friday, September 21.

It's being held at Fresno's VFW Post 8900 -- 3585 N. Blythe Avenue.

The event is open to all active duty military and veterans.

There, they can find information on services ranging from government applications and medical referrals to legal matters and assistance for the homeless.

Around a thousand veterans are expected to show up.

Free meals, haircuts, showers, clothing and hygiene supplies will also be provided.

Employees from EYE-Q Vision Center will also be providing eye care treatment.

For more information, contact John Schuler (vice president of Central Valley Veterans and director of the Stand Down event) at (559) 977-3697.
