Muslim Leaders Condemn Violence In Middle East

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

As the bodies of the four Americans murdered in Libya are brought home to their final rest, violent, anti-American riots erupt across much of the Muslim world.

Meanwhile, local Muslims say they disagree with the violence taking place around the world.

Dr. El Syed Ramadan, the Imam of Masjid Fresno says, "We do not agree with this group of Muslim doing attacking the embassies killing innocent people killing Americans in Libya and even killing some Muslims."

Dr. El Syed Ramadan is the Imam, or spiritual leader, of the Fresno Islamic Center.

As local Muslims gathered for Friday prayer, Dr. Ramadan plans to address head-on the controversy over the video that depicts the Prophet Mohammad in a negative light.

He wants everyone to show restraint.

Dr. Ramadan says, "This is not acceptable in Islam, the Prophet Mohammad, peace be on him, prohibited that in the Quran it says if you kill an innocent person it's as if you kill all mankind."

Others didn't want to go on camera but say there is no justification in the Muslim religion or in the Quran that justifies killing innocent people, and that no movie, no matter how offensive or outrageous, ever justifies the violence that has erupted.
