October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Here is a list of events designed to raise awareness about the disease:
Paint the Town Pink – Decorate the office in pink, decorate a retail space in pink or create a pink breast cancer awareness display and enter by Oct. 8 to win awards during Kaweah Delta Breast Center's Paint the Town Pink event. Submit pictures of your efforts at www.facebook.com/kaweahdelta and rally the community to "like" photos throughout October. Photos in each category with the most "likes" win; voting ends at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. Winners announced at Kaweah Delta's Breast Cancer Awareness Tea on Thursday, Oct. 25. High Tea – Kaweah Delta Breast Center is hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness Tea at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Sequoia Regional Cancer Center, 4945 W. Cypress Ave., Visalia. Event will include food, music and laughter. Guest speaker: Jane Case-Cisneros author of "Bald Sweaty Bitch With One Tit: A Memoir, A Pink Ribbon Journey." Tickets are $15 and available in advance of event only at Downtown Visalians, 103 N. Court St. or by calling 624-2242.
Cupcakes for Breast Cancer – The Kaweah Delta Breast Center invites people to enter a "cup"cake contest in honor of breast cancer awareness month. To enter, deliver one dozen "cup"cakes (with the color pink incorporated) for judging by 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, to Sequoia Regional Cancer Center, 4945 W. Cypress Ave. in Visalia. Judging will be done by cancer survivors and winner will be announced at the breast center's Breast Cancer Awareness Tea on Thursday, Oct. 25. "Cup"cake submissions will be one of many featured desserts at the center's Breast Cancer Awareness Tea. Tickets to tea are sold in advance only for $15 and are available at Downtown Visalians, 103 N. Court St. or by calling 624-2242.
Pink Friday – The Kaweah Delta Breast Center invites the community to wear pink on Friday, Oct. 5 in support of breast cancer awareness. Those wearing pink are invited to submit pictures of themselves or co-workers by Oct. 8 at www.facebook.com/kaweahdelta and rally the community to "like" photos throughout October. Photos in the "wear pink" category with the most "likes" win; voting ends at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. Winners announced at Kaweah Delta's Breast Cancer Awareness Tea on Thursday, Oct. 25.
