MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

Two Nevada men traveling through Madera County got a one-way ticket to jail Tuesday after an almond grower phoned in suspicious activity near his orchard.

Madera County sheriff's spokeswoman Erica Stuart says deputies received a call shortly after 10 a.m. about a car that was seen trespassing on private property near Road 23 and Avenue 16.

Deputies showed up and found 23-year-old Justin Oppenheim and 22-year-old William Corgan, both of Elko, Nevada. Both men were arrested but not before Oppenheim punched a deputy in the face, Stuart said.

The pair was booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections. Oppenheim faces charges of assault on a peace officer.

According to Nevada officials, both men have a lengthy criminal history.
