FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
A 25-year-old parolee who Fresno County sheriff's deputies say escaped custody while being treated at a hospital has been captured.
Robert Lee Davis III was taken to Community Regional Medical Center Tuesday night after he told deputies that he had taken ecstasy, sheriff's spokesman Chris Curtice said.
Deputies say Davis asked to use the bathroom around 6 p.m. He wasn't wearing handcuffs, and after going to the bathroom, he ran out the door past security.
Early Wednesday morning, the sheriff's office received an anonymous tip that Davis was at a home along Tyler Avenue near Fresno Street. Deputies went to that location and found out that Davis had been tipped off, and that he had just left, Curtice said.
Deputies then learned that Davis may have been taken to an apartment complex on Divisadero near College Avenue -- just a few blocks west of CRMC.
Deputies went door to door and found Davis hiding in a garage, Curtice said. He was taken into custody and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
Davis is on parole for grand theft, and was originally in custody for possession of stolen property, resisting an officer and weapons charges. He now faces additional charges for felony escape.
A second man -- 23-year-old Joshua Gonzalez -- was arrested for harboring a wanted fugitive, Curtice said. He was also booked into the Fresno County Jail.
