First year Fresno State head football coach Tim DeRuyter wants his Bulldogs to play fast, physical and fanatical. And he wants them to reach that level on every play of every game.
DeRuyter says that consistency of playing with a high level of emotion will help the Bulldogs avoid losing games to lesser teams. That is something that has plagued Fresno State in recent seasons.
Some coaches feel it is almost impossible to get a team fired up to play every game. But when it comes to playing with high emotion, DeRuyter has no intention of trying to reign in his guys.
The coach admits the returning players have a chip on their shoulders after the disappointment of last season, and want to make amends.
The Bulldogs open a new season and kick off a new era under DeRuyter Saturday night when they host Weber State in the opener.
