FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
It's an accident waiting to happen at Cedar and Copper. In recent weeks new non–operating traffic signal lights are creating confusion in northeast Fresno.
It's close call after close call at the intersection of Cedar and Copper. We witnessed a few in the short time we were there Friday afternoon. Bob Cassaroli made the close call list. "I was heading west down Copper and a car stopped in front of me and the lights weren't functioning, so I wasn't expecting it and almost rear-ended them."
The speed limit on Copper Avenue is 50 MPH, so beware of busses, commercial business vehicles and pickups that come to a complete stop.
After looking at KMPH News footage of close calls, a Fresno City Engineer admits there's a problem. "It looks like we need to do a little bit more on our construction inspection techniques, making sure that the heads are covered properly. It looks like they kind of blacked out too much."
The signal lights were scheduled to begin operating before school started this week but technical snags caused the delay.
The confusion should be coming to an end by early next week. The city says the signal lights should be operating by Tuesday or Wednesday.
The signal lights are being paid for by developer Granville Homes and not Fresno City taxpayers.
